The demand for qualified professionals in veterinary physiotherapy and rehabilitation is steadily increasing. The VMPT® program (Veterinary Manual Physical Therapist) is a certified, university-based continuing education program designed for veterinary nurses/technicians (TFA) and interested veterinarians.
This advanced training offers the opportunity to specialize in physiotherapy for dogs, cats, and small companion animals – combining scientific depth, hands-on learning, and a formally recognized qualification.
Participants are trained in a blended learning format, combining self-paced online modules with supervised in-person practical sessions led by experts in physical medicine and rehabilitation.
What to expect in the VMPT® course
The VMPT® program teaches theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the following areas:
Anatomy and biomechanics of the musculoskeletal system
Orthopedic and neurological examination techniques
Indication-based therapy planning
Physical therapy modalities such as TENS, laser therapy, thermotherapy, and movement-based treatment
Development and implementation of individualized rehabilitation plans
Participants learn how to professionally support and guide animal patients through rehabilitation following surgery, injury, or chronic disease — always in close collaboration with the attending veterinarian.
Learning in a blended learning format
The VMPT® program is based on a well-structured blended learning approach that combines:
Self-paced e-learning with interactive modules, videos, and quizzes
On-site practical training with real patients, guided exercises, and expert supervision
A 40-hour externship at a certified partner clinic
Case-based work and a final examination
This format offers maximum flexibility while maintaining a high level of clinical and academic depth – ideal for professionals working in veterinary settings.
